Demeure D'Aliénor is a traditional Charentaise house with contemporary charm, full of light and openness. The 1.5 hectare garden with wildflowers and fruit trees extends further into damp meadows and ponds leading to the Gironde estuary. The rolling hills surrounding the estate with vineyards and sunflower fields invite you on a good walk. For recreational cyclists who prefer something flatter there are plenty of opportunities towards the picturesque little harbours. Vineyards are here at the end of the Charente-Maritime and the beginning of the Bordeaux wine region, Le Bordelais, omnipresent. By ferry to the Médoc with visits to the great wine châteaux, producers of les meilleurs grands crus du monde with resounding names such as Margaux, Saint-Julien, Saint-Estèphe, Pauillac. On the coast the holiday has something of a sweet dream, the fine sandy beaches of Vaux Sur Mer, Royan and Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, are interrupted by seaside resorts that still look like villages. Talmont-sur-Gironde, un des plus beaux village de France is a must-see. Between the oyster farms of Marennes and Ile d'Oléron the typical fish restaurants showcase oysters and seafood. The name Demeure D'Aliénor was chosen after the historical figure of Duchess Aliénor d'Aquitaine, successively queen of France and England. She was not only intelligent and extraordinarily beautiful. Because Aquitaine with the associated counties encompassed approximately a quarter of France with rich cities such as Bordeaux, Saintes, La Rochelle, and also agricultural lands, Duchess Eleonora d'Aquitaine was the richest and most powerful of the feudal lords of France.
